1. Always use the largest brush possible consistent with equipment and workpiece limitations.
  2. Always use the finest filler material possible consistent with accomplishing the job to be done. In order to achieve best results with smaller-gauge fill material, use highest speed possible within safe free speed range of brush.
  3. In order to achieve best results with lighter gauge fill material, use highest speed possible within safe free speed range of brush.
  4. Within limitations of workpiece irregularities, use as dense a fill as possible.
  5. For longer brush life, reverse rotation of brush periodically to avoid using dull leading edges of wires in brush.
  6. Brushes are designed in almost all applications to use the ends of the filament in the brush. Excessive workpiece pressure bends wires over and destroys effectiveness of the brush.
  7. Brush across, not along, edges.
  8. Use stainless wire when brushing stainless steel or aluminum to avoid after-rusting caused by micro deposits of carbon steel.
  9. Use phosphor bronze wire in explosive atmoshperes to prevent sparking.
  10. Finally, always wear safety glasses when operating power brushes even if it’s only for a minute—even fiber brushes can throw metal chips.
